“... the Genesee Valley Chapter is banning cars with “automatic emergency braking” and/or “lane keeping assistance” systems. This is due to the systems causing cars to behave in unpredictable and undesirable ways on a racetrack.”

I though there was ways to defeat those systems. I guess not.

Park assist yes, but the emergency systems usually no. I’m curious if they’d allow it to be disabled by coding. BMW needs to offer a system akin to how the GTR knows when it’s on a racetrack (at least in Japan) to disable to speed limiter. I’m sure for GPS equipped vehicles this would be possible and, likely, a requirement as cars gain more and more autonomous functionality.

That makes zero sense. In every car I’ve been in with those systems they can be disabled very easily.

My BMW actually has one button on the dash that turns all of them off at once (anti-colission, lane keep, etc.).

They definitely can be defeated, especially in BMWs. My BMW actually has one button that turns all of those driver assists off.

Wouldn’t be the first BMW driver to not realize how a switch works :P

Note: GVC will deny participation, and forfeit the entry fees, of anyone arriving at our events intending to use a car equipped with these systems in the driving school.

They need to be clearer with their wording. Will the driver get a refund, or will they be out of luck?

It’s worded like they’ll get a refund (“GVC will... forfeit the entry fees”) but even using the word “forfeit” make it sound like they meant the opposite.

“even if these systems may be disabled by the driver.”

So the GVC acknowledges that you can, but they must not trust that it will always happen.

They should just make that part of the tech inspection if they don’t trust the drivers.

Seems like the track is just being lazy then and is banning the cars rather than trying to accommodate them in any way.

The problem is you have to hit the button every time. To be fair, I think it’s dumb, and they could easily check it at the window when they check your bracelet, as the buttons are on the left of the wheel.

It looks like in the update released on the 12th they are backpedaling hard claiming the notice that went out was an accident and they have not actually made any decisions on banning cars with advanced drivers aids.
